Overview
Brinebomb Lobber is a Standard-variant Bugvex surface bombard organism. Swollen chemical reservoirs sit beneath armored ridges, with projecting living discharge folds above a broad buoyant body. Slow, stable floating and recoil-bracing buoyancy control support corrosive globes, brine bombs, burning chemical sacs and brood-shell payloads.
Organism Profile
Dimensions & Scale
Proposed nominal dimensions: Length 11.0 m × Width 10.7 m × Height 5.7 m.
Supplied approximate overall-size range: 10–12 m. The nominal length uses the midpoint of that range. Width and height are fictional estimates based on the organism's visual proportions; height includes the projecting discharge folds. These are overall concept estimates, not supplied engineering measurements or a measured waterline.
Proposed surface living displacement: approximately 175 ton (metric tons). The fictional envelope estimate allows for buoyancy tissues, chemical reservoirs, soft body regions and protective growths. It is not measured displacement, actual tissue density or validated hydrostatics.
Weapons & Armament
Living discharge folds lob corrosive globes, brine bombs, burning chemical sacs and brood-shell payloads. Swollen chemical reservoirs supply the bombard organs through connected vascular and muscular tissues. The payload families support surface artillery and saturation attack, with recoil absorbed by the broad body and its buoyancy-bracing response.
Brood-shell payloads carry a living component and therefore involve different development and release demands from purely chemical charges. The design specifies no mechanical guns, separate launch equipment or heavy long-range naval battery. Exact gland counts, shot quantities, range and chemical effects are not numerically assigned.
External Anatomy
A low, broad floating body carries overlapping dark brown and muted slate armor ridges around pale swollen buoyancy regions. Amber-yellow chemical sacs rise through protected gaps, leading into pink-red projecting discharge folds. Smaller organic nodules and pointed protective growths line the perimeter.
The underside's rounded tissues, upper reservoirs and folded release mouths remain parts of one biological body. Pigmentation follows living tissue and armored growth rather than painted vehicle panels.
Functional Architecture
Buoyancy and recoil — The floating body regulates buoyancy and internal bracing as discharge glands contract. Stable trim supports a useful launch arc; damaged buoyancy regions and rough water disturb that coordination.
Chemical preparation — Reservoirs, living release folds and connected circulation prepare and deliver the different bombard payloads. Production and recovery consume nutrient supply and time.
Brood payloads — Biological growth and release must coordinate with the destructive bombardment cycle so living payloads are not treated as an unlimited ammunition reserve
Local coordination — Proposed distributed sensory and nerve tissues align body posture, discharge timing and nearby brood movement. Protection and recovery rely on surrounding marine formations as well as the host's own armor.
Technical Specifications
Offensive rating: 68/100 — Corrosive globes, brine bombs, burning sacs and brood-shell payloads support surface saturation bombardment
Defensive rating: 48/100 — Armored ridges protect parts of the body, while swollen reservoirs and buoyancy tissues remain exposed to damage
Mobility rating: 24/100 — Slow, stable surface floating favors settled firing intervals rather than pursuit or rapid evasion
Tactical cognition rating: 62/100 — Coordinated buoyancy bracing and discharge timing keep bombardment aligned with nearby brood movement
Endurance rating: 55/100 — Finite chemical stores, living payload development and tissue repair constrain repeated attacks
Fleet support rating: 70/100 — Saturation fire and brood-shell deployment create short usable openings for accompanying surface organisms
Battlefield Role
Standard surface artillery and saturation attack. Brinebomb floats within a suitable firing position, braces its buoyancy tissues and lobs chemical or brood-bearing payloads toward a selected surface approach. It works most effectively inside a protected marine formation that can cover its slow relocation and recovery.
Maritime Operations
Slow, stable floating defines its sea-surface movement. Buoyancy control adjusts trim and braces the body against reaction loads as the grown discharge folds release. Useful firing positions depend on water conditions and enough surrounding space to relocate gradually.
Only Surface is assigned. The body is not a submarine, ground crawler or aircraft; flight, deep-water operation and space travel are not established.
Defense Architecture
Armored ridges and pointed perimeter growths shelter the chemical organ roots and portions of the central body. Broad buoyancy regions maintain trim while local bracing stabilizes discharge. Nearby screens and larger surface hosts can protect the lobber during demanding firing and recovery intervals.
The inflated reservoirs, release folds and lower buoyancy tissues remain vulnerable. Damage to one region can affect both attack preparation and the body's ability to float in a stable posture.
Operational Limits
Rough seas, disturbed currents and a damaged buoyancy region can spoil the firing arc. Slow movement limits withdrawal when a target changes position or escorts approach. Chemical stores require preparation and replenishment, while brood-shell payloads also require viable living growth.
Bombardment near friendly organisms demands careful timing. A rich target beyond a stable bracing position may remain unusable, and saturation fire does not guarantee every payload reaches the intended region. Repair and renewed attack draw on the same finite biological resources.
Strategic Strengths
Combines several biological payload families with stable floating and integrated recoil control. The broad buoyant body supports useful saturation fire without separate artillery equipment, while armored ridges protect the connecting organ roots.
Capability Assessment
Proposed fictional doctrine profile. Attack and formation support dominate through chemical bombardment and living payload release. Mobility is low, protection is incomplete around swollen tissues and endurance depends on finite preparation cycles. Tactical cognition reflects coordination of posture, payload choice and friendly movement rather than universal brood command. Ratings describe intended roles rather than measured performance.

Individual History
The First Mixture — Brinebomb Lobber matured among surface broods where waves pressed its developing buoyancy tissues before its chemical reservoirs could support a complete discharge. It knew siblings as changes in water pressure and the taste of familiar secretions near the nursery folds. One swollen gland matured faster than the rest, repeatedly upsetting trim when it contracted. The young organism learned to brace its floating body before releasing, delaying the dominant reservoir until smaller buoyancy regions answered. Its first identity was therefore a rhythm of restraint inside an appetite for bombardment, not a mind operating a weapon carried on its back.
The Bitter Nursery — Early feeding shaped different stores within the growing body. Corrosive globes required one preparation, burning sacs another; brood-shell payloads carried living demands that could not simply be treated as interchangeable chemical reserve. Brinebomb released a poorly formed charge during a territorial struggle and wounded its own discharge fold. A stronger sibling displaced it from the sheltered feeding margin while damaged tissue closed. It returned to that margin later with a slower, more stable launch, forcing the sibling aside through repeated pressure rather than a single spectacular release. Its first victory established a place to feed without erasing the bodily cost of impatience.
The Broken Shoals — War brought the mature lobber into the surface formation moving around Stormwake Sovereign. The giant's spine fire controlled approaches Brinebomb could not independently dominate. In the War of the Broken Shoals, it floated within a protected firing interval and lobbed corrosive globes toward vessels holding an exposed passage. Some charges broke harmlessly in disturbed water; others reached vulnerable outer regions and forced defenders to alter their heading. The lobber's slow body remained dependent on that shelter. It had useful saturation fire, but could not turn every miss into a chase or replace the Sovereign's armored presence.
The Drowned Causeway's Edge — While Stormwake held the approach channel through three tidal reversals, Brinebomb worked along a smaller protected margin of the living corridor. It launched brine bombs against a position threatening the passing brood, then held burning sacs when friendly organisms crossed its aim. The current changed the landing pattern faster than its body could relocate. It switched the next release to an available angle rather than insisting that the earlier arc remained safe. The causeway fell through the larger formation's sustained action. Brinebomb remembered an individual interval when withholding one payload kept its own kin out of the rupture.
The Brood-Shell Return — Not every living payload returned a useful response. After a later bombardment, Brinebomb waited for organisms released inside brood shells to answer through accompanying scouts. Some had established purchase; others were gone. A neighboring lobber discharged into the same target region before the surviving brood cleared it. Brinebomb's command response rose sharply, but could not recall the released bodies or stop every rival contraction. It expended a remaining chemical charge to force hostile fire away from the emerging survivors. The recovered feeding opportunity was smaller than the cost, and the lobber retained a stronger separation between launches carrying kin and those carrying only destructive secretion.
The Second Tide's Shelter — Broodwake Colossus admitted the exhausted lobber beneath its protective ridges after a rough-water withdrawal. Brinebomb arrived with a torn buoyancy region and an inflated reservoir it could not safely empty among the recovering brood. The hatchery's delayed release gave it time to stabilize without being forced back into open water. A smaller organism repeatedly nudged the damaged side, learning where the lobber's trim had become unreliable. Brinebomb tolerated the contact until the region healed. It departed after the fresh screen entered calmer water, carrying a renewed gland and an unfamiliar accompanying body instead of a restored version of its solitary earlier posture.
The Narrow Meal — The rival lobber later claimed a carcass in water where Brinebomb's broad floating body could not brace reliably. Hunger urged another contest. The accompanying organism tested the edge, and Brinebomb felt the repeated unstable pressure through the water. It abandoned the richest part of the prey, gathering useful scraps along a steadier sheltered margin. The rival fed first but became trapped against a shifting obstruction when defensive craft returned. Brinebomb used corrosive globes from stable water to drive those attackers away, then took part of the abandoned feeding stock. It neither recovered the rival nor learned whether that body escaped.
The Saltfold Opening — In a later attack on a coastal barrier, Brinebomb coordinated a short bombardment with brood preparing to cross. Recoil-bracing buoyancy held its discharge folds steady as chemical sacs struck the barrier's exposed region. It kept brood-shell launches separate from the following saturation interval, allowing smaller organisms to exploit a localized opening before renewed fire. The barrier was disabled and the formation passed. The accompanying scout returned intact. For the first time, the lobber completed a demanding engagement without injuring its own trim or confusing a successful destructive burst with the completion of its brood's movement.
The Living Arc — Brinebomb now travels among surface broods supporting the Stillwater Convergence. Broodwake's nursery rhythms offer recovery, while Stormwake's slow advance establishes a wider protected corridor. The lobber's changed buoyancy region answers differently in rough water, and its companion has begun scouting farther than Brinebomb can follow. Ahead lies a defended shoal rich in compatible food, where another lobber uses a launch rhythm resembling the rival's. Brinebomb must decide whether that recognition deserves cooperation, competition or simple distance. Its present work is bombardment that leaves a usable interval for the living bodies behind it, without spending those bodies as though another nursery could replace every loss.
